6-course menu at Caronte – With scenic park views and rose-colored hues, Rufino Osteria’s sister restaurant brings inventive Italian cuisine to Carlsberg Byen
At this parkside rose-colored restaurant, lesser-known traditional Italian recipes are brought to life using modern techniques in an open kitchen. ‘Caronte’ may be known as the angel of death in ancient mythology, but the restaurant of the same name in Carlsberg Byen is light-filled and vivacious. With everything from seasonally inspired pasta to creamy panna cotta, the menu is a distinct expression of head chef Marco Muzzarelli’s northern Italian roots and prior experience at Michelin-starred Ristorante Local in Veneto. From the same team that runs Christianshavn’s beloved Rufino Osteria, Caronte is less rustic, more refined, and equally as focused on superb wine pairings.
WHAT YOU GET
Enjoy a 6-course menu at Caronte. The menu is chef’s choice, so dishes rotate regularly and reflect the best produce of the season. Start with a charcuterie plate of Prosciutto di Parma, coppa, and mortadella accompanied by gnocco fritto and pickled vegetables. Then, bite into baked winter squash with gorgonzola foam, orange reduction, and lavender. Taste pan-seared octopus with crispy potatoes, parsley mayonnaise, pickled celery, and dried black olives. Eat linguine pasta with mussels, broccoli florets, fresh chili, and smoked scamorza cheese. Savor tender braised beef in a rich red wine sauce with sautéed seasonal greens. For dessert, indulge in creamy Cynar-scented panna cotta with made-from-scratch biscuits and orange zest.

Caronte comes from the same powerhouse food and beverage family as Rufino Osteria, along with the wine import businesses FuCo Wine and Giano, which supply some of the best restaurants in Copenhagen. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Caronte’s wine list is second to none. Set just beside J.C. Jacobsens Park in the heart of up-and-coming Carlsberg Byen, the space boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, rose-colored walls, and a characteristic black-and-white painting of the namesake angel of death. Rather than rowing you to ‘the other side’, just imagine he’s ushering you toward a new rendition of Italian cuisine that sets Caronte apart from other places in the city.
