Judie is helping to make Nyhavn great again, one piece of expertly crafted smørrebrød at a time. Residing on the upper floor of a cabaret boat in an area notorious for tourist traps, the location is unexpected yet undeniably beautiful. While the restaurant and the team behind Judie are unpretentious, media outlets have quickly taken notice of their brilliance. They are bound by tradition, but they still think out of the box. Herring with red curry and Gammel Knas cheese? Just trust them; you won’t regret it.

WHAT YOU GET

Two smørrebrød and a dessert at Judie. The smørrebrød selection is chef’s choice, so it rotates regularly and reflects the best produce of the season. Taste their take on the classics, like Chicken Salad topped with pickled seasonal mushrooms and crispy bacon. Try the Roast Beef, which is slow-cooked for 12 hours, thinly sliced, and layered with pickled cornichons, housemade remoulade, fried onions, and freshly grated horseradish. Enjoy Egg Salad with Sichuan mayonnaise, pickled pak choi salad, crunchy rye bread chips, and a dusting of smoked paprika. Have the not-so-classic Curry Herring with herring pickled in-house, Thai red curry mayonnaise, Gammel Knas cheese, and dehydrated raspberries. Indulge in dessert, like Risalamande with Judie cherry sauce or Pound Cake with coconut and caramel.

Judie’s head chef, Chris Franklin, was crowned the Danish smørrebrød champion in 2019, and when you taste his creations, you’ll quickly understand why. He and three friends are the masterminds behind Judie, which is a step-sister restaurant to Janice in Vesterbro. At Judie, the approach is discerning but not overly dogmatic. ​​Everything – from the food to the interior – is modern and impeccably composed while still being approachable. Their craftsmanship and first-rate flavors are something everyone can get on board with.
