5-course menu at Italo Thai on Værnedamsvej – An Italian trattoria that writes its own rules when it comes to restaurant culture
The name ‘Italo Thai’ is a tribute to Værnedamsvej 10’s twenty-year history as a Thai takeaway place, but the menu is unmistakably Italian these days. While the interior is indeed a fusion of the location’s former lives – which also includes a butcher shop – the cuisine has clear ties to trattoria-style cooking and the tables are snugly tucked in. You might even see a few tables sandwiched between parked cars in the summertime; they are that dedicated to finding you a seat when you need your spaghetti fix. While visiting Italo Thai, just sit back and enjoy the ride. You’ll be entertained and well taken care of.
WHAT YOU GET
Enjoy a 5-course menu at Italo Thai. The menu is chef’s choice, so dishes rotate regularly and reflect the best produce of the season. To start, you’ll try an assortment of antipasti. Taste Baccalà Mantecato, a creamy Venetian codfish mousse served with crispy crostini. Get Vitello Tonnato, accompanied by housemade giardiniera pickles. Savor Insalata di Polpo, with slow-cooked octopus, boiled potatoes, radicchio, lemon, and lots of fresh herbs. Then, move on to the main course, which might be a classic, like Cacio e Pepe with handmade pasta, or perhaps it will be rich Risotto agli Spinaci topped with prosciutto crudo. For dessert, indulge in a crowd favorite, top-notch Tiramisu.

Locals love Italo Thai for the comforting Italian dishes as much as the unapologetically kitschy aesthetic. Thai dishes might also pop up on the menu from time to time, but you won’t find ultra-funky fusion food here. The produce is always biodynamic, the wine comes from small producers, and the people are positively playful. This is a place where the rules aren’t taken too seriously, but tiramisu is always on the menu. One of the owners’ spouses actually made him promise that last part – tiramisu or bust.
