Pick any gyros combo at Strangas in city center – The guy who went from being a fine dining pastry chef to serving seriously good Greek street food

Surely there must be an ancient Greek proverb that says, ‘If you can’t find a good gyros place, open one yourself’. Okay, maybe not, but that’s what Nikolas Strangas took to heart after living in Denmark for over a decade. One windy day on a beach in Mykonos, he had a ‘come-to-gyros’ moment and realized Copenhagen was in need of great Greek food. Formerly the pastry chef at Era Ora and Hotel d'Angleterre, he’s since switched over to street eats. At Strangas, it’s more about what tastes amazing than what’s considered traditional. These are next-level gyros with a signature twist.

WHAT YOU GET

Pick any gyros combo with fries + dip. Enjoy your gyros hot off the grill and eat at the bar, or order it to go. Everything starts with the soft, fluffy pita, which gets brushed with butter before being lightly toasted. Each of the meats is marinated in herbs, cooked sous vide, and flame-grilled to finish. Maybe you’re in the mood for a marinated Pork Gyros, topped with fresh and garlicky tzatziki. Choose the Chicken Gyros, which is served with a signature Strangas dressing of lime, honey, mustard, worcestershire, and secret seasoning. Or, have a go at the vegetarian Halloumi Gyros, with halloumi grilled to a golden crisp and topped with homemade tzatziki. All of the gyros are filled with fresh tomato, lettuce, red onion, and a handful of golden fries. To go with your side of fries, select one of their tasty dips – tzatziki, mayo, or Strangas dressing.

+ ABOUT

They say ‘It’s the cure for being hangry’, and we couldn’t agree more. At Strangas, the gyros transport you to Greece with their vibrant flavors, and the shop on Gothersgade exudes sunny seaside vibes. According to Nikolas Strangas, the traditions of his homeland run deep, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your own take on things. All of his recipes have been carefully tested, and they continue to be tweaked so they taste the very best. Gyros taste tester? Sounds like a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.
